We are sometimes called out to test for rising damp, but when we inspect the property it turns out to be an issue with condensation, not a failure of the damp proof course.
Poor insulation, combined with insufficient ventilation, will lead to condensation and associated mould growth. This is most evident in locations where warm, moist air hits a cold (uninsulated) outside wall or roof and is often seen behind wardrobes in bedrooms, in bathrooms and in the bays of houses.
If you have black spot mould growth in your house then do not ignore it as the spores can be dangerous when inhaled. As well as removing the mould with a cloth dipped in bleach, the cause of the problem needs to be addressed.
Increasing ventilation and moving furniture away from walls helps, however the best way to prevent mould growth is to insulate the external walls of your home and this is where we can help you.
